A New Study Links Microplastics to Heart Attacks and Strokes
A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine has found that the presence of microplastics multiplied the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and death in individuals with already identified with carotid artery plaque on the heals of research published last year that indicated that microplastics are commonly found in human blood and tissues, likely due to our near-constant exposure in the modern world. Although inconclusive as to the risks, it poses serious questions about the risks of our continued use of obsessive use of cheap plastics (ScienceNews)

Early Disturbances in Gut Flora Associated with ADHD and Autism
The journal Cell recently published research demonstrating that markers of compromised gut flora in those under the age of one are associated with increased risk for being later diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and autism. Although more research needs to be conducted to identify potential causes of the compromised gut flora, early indicators are that the use of antibiotics is one of the likely culprits (MedicalXpress).

From Our Kitchen to Yours - Recipe of the Week
Spicy Lamb Sausage
(Prep time 10 minutes, Cooking time 15 minutes)
Ingredients:
1 Pound of Ground Lamb
ÂĽ Cup of Sun Dried Tomato Bits
1 Medium Onion, peeled and finely chopped
½ Red Bell Pepper, diced
2 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
½ tbsp of Tomato Paste
2 Cloves of Garlic, peeled and mashed
½ Cup of Crispy Pine Nuts
ÂĽ Cup of Fresh Cilantro, chopped
½ tbsp of Fresh Mint, chopped
1 tsp of Cayenne Pepper
1 tsp of Ground Cumin
1 tsp of Ground Coriander
2-3 tsp of Sea Salt
1 tsp of Cracked Pepper
2 tbsp of Fresh Lemon Juice
1 Egg, lightly beaten
STEP-BY-STEP
Saute onions, peppers and tomato bits in olive oil until soft.
Mix onions, peppers, and tomato bits into lamb.
Mix other ingredients into lamb.
After mixing well, form lamb into patties.
Cook on stove top on Low-Medium for about 7 minutes on each side in a well seasoned, cast iron skillet.
Pairs well with roasted or steamed root vegetables, sauerkraut, and side salad.
